the Western Larch

The Western Larch provides eye catching scenery in the Kootenays with its brilliant yellow fall colours. It is a deciduous conifer that drops its needles in the winter. When the fires came through many of the Larch are going to be able to regenerate next spring as they able to regenerate as they can regrow their needles. The devastation from the fires this year was extensive, making me appreciate the wilderness even more!

These images were taken while we were hunting this fall. I used multiple exposures for them all, which I feel expresses their colours and shows their visual impact that they have in the wilderness. Some are also using camera movement with longer exposures, intensifying the painterly vision I feel represents them.
