Birds! at Reifle Sanctuary

Photography by Kerri-Jo

We went for a walk through the Reifel Bird Sanctuary and of course I took my camera. I used my 80-400mm lens but with the kids I think the 50mm would have been better. I knew I wouldn't be able to stop and wait for any great bird shots and thought we probably wouldn't see anything. But one great thing is that all the kids feed the birds and the birds know that and follow them around! Even if you just walk along the paths you will see lots of birds, like these shorebirds and an amazing amount of ducks.

There are some resident Sandhill Cranes and I was really hoping to get a glimpse of one. I was really surprised when the cranes flocked to us for feeding though! They are even friendlier than the ducks.

And the Snow Geese are back for the winter! They don't eat out of your hand though.
